Kellie Pickler is paying tribute to her deceased husband as she makes her comeback to the stage following his passing.
The 37-year-old former “American Idol” contestant sang at a Nashville event honoring country music star Patsy Cline. This marked Pickler’s initial live performance following her husband Kyle Jacobs’ passing.
Pickler admitted to feeling extremely nervous before her performance, as captured in a video by Music Mayhem Magazine. She acknowledged that it was her first time on stage in a long time.
Pickler decided to sing a song she co-wrote with her deceased spouse, Kyle Jacobs, called “The Woman I Am.”
Jacobs, Pickler’s husband for 12 years and a songwriter/producer who collaborated with artists like Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw, was discovered deceased in the couple’s residence in February 2023 in an apparent suicide, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. He was 49 years old.
Pickler informed the audience during her performance that she and her husband collaborated on the song over ten years ago. She mentioned that the last time she visited the Ryman Auditorium was with him on a date night and expressed her belief that he was present with them on that night.
After Jacobs passed away, Pickler finally spoke out in a statement to People magazine in August last year. She shared, “One of the most valuable things my husband taught me was that in times of crisis, if you are unsure of what to do, just ‘Do nothing, be still.’ I have decided to follow his guidance.”
