22-year-old influencer Sofia Amorim passed away in Brazil from multiple organ failure while being seven months pregnant.
Influencer Sofia passed away on Wednesday due to multiple organ failure, despite the best efforts of medical professionals in Goiânia, Brazil, to preserve her life. Regrettably, her unborn baby also did not survive.
Sofia, who had been posting pictures of her baby bump for her followers, had reportedly mentioned feeling breathless before. A friend, speaking anonymously to the local media, shared that Sofia was experiencing severe shortness of breath, which was initially attributed to anxiety. However, on Tuesday afternoon, it was discovered that she had dengue fever, leading to fluid-filled lungs. By 10pm, she had to undergo intubation.
They said that the baby had passed away in the mother’s womb early in the morning. The medical team didn’t proceed with delivery right away due to the mother’s low platelet count, which could have led to excessive bleeding. The decision to perform a caesarean section was made as a final attempt to save her life.
The Health Department of Goias State in Brazil reports a total of 72,747 confirmed cases of dengue fever, showing a significant 257% surge compared to the previous year.
Experts said that the most deadly insect-borne virus in the world is transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, leading to fever in individuals.
