Stateside Daily ("we", "our", "us") operates statesidedaily.com and the Stateside Daily mobile apps. This policy describes what data we collect and how we handle it, with special notice to California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah residents whose state privacy laws grant additional rights.

1. Data we collect

1.1 Automatically

• Standard server logs: IP address, user-agent, referrer, request path, timestamp. Retained 30 days.
• Cookies required for the site to function (e.g. consent preferences, session tokens once you sign in).
• Analytics data via Google Analytics 4 if you consent — see "Cookies" below.

1.2 You provide

• Email address if you subscribe to our newsletter.
• Bookmarks, topic follows, and app preferences if you sign in on our mobile apps.
• Any message you send via /contact.

2. How we use data

• Operate and improve the site and apps.
• Deliver personalized feeds and push notifications if you opt in.
• Measure aggregate usage to inform editorial and product decisions.
• Deliver ads — see "Advertising" below.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of essential cookies for functionality, and, with your consent, optional cookies for analytics (Google Analytics 4) and advertising. You can change your cookie preferences at any time via the consent banner or the footer "Cookie preferences" link.

4. Advertising

Stateside Daily displays ads to fund our journalism. Advertising partners (e.g. Google AdSense / Ad Manager) may place cookies to show relevant ads and measure performance. We never sell your data. You can opt out of personalized ads via Google's Ads Settings.

5. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you're a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect about you.
• Delete personal information we hold about you, subject to exceptions.
• Correct inaccurate personal information.
• Opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
• Limit use of sensitive personal information.
• Non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

To exercise these rights, email privacy@statesidedaily.com or use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in the footer. We respond to verified requests within 45 days.

6. Other US state rights

Residents of Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), and Utah (UCPA) have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of targeted advertising. Contact privacy@statesidedaily.com.

7. Third parties

We use AWS (CloudFront + us-east-2) for hosting, Google Analytics 4 for analytics, Google AdSense for advertising, and Sentry for error reporting. These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and by contract to protect your data.

8. Children

Stateside Daily is not directed at children under 13 (COPPA) and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has submitted data, email us and we will delete it.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced on the homepage and in the date stamp above.
