The countdown to New Year’s Eve arrived at Times Square unexpectedly early on Tuesday night, attracting a large crowd to the well-known tourist spot. However, the focus was not on the traditional ball drop, but on the performance by Colombian superstar Shakira.
Shakira released her first album in seven years, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, last week. To celebrate her comeback, the artist held a large surprise concert in Times Square.
The unscripted live YouTube broadcast was revealed on her social media a few hours prior to her scheduled performance at 7:15 p.m. E.T. As per the celebrity’s official Instagram post, 40,000 individuals gathered in Times Square in New York City.
