The beloved character actor says that his interest in hosting a food-centric program accelerated, ironically, when he couldn't eat at all due to treatment for oral cancer: "It was a really scary time. I lost 30 pounds. I could barely walk. You're on morphine for a while because the pain in your mouth is so excrutiating. It was horrible."
